About

Our Writers:

Mark Roche has covered this island on two wheels and two feet more than almost anyone. He’s the backbone of this project. His knowledge of Taiwan’s roads runs deep.

Originally from Dublin, Mark has been living in Taiwan for over 30 years, and in that time, he’s made it his mission to know this island better than most people born here. As the founder of Blue Skies Adventures, he knows Taiwan’s cycling routes and high-mountain hiking logistics like the back of his hand. And that’s not marketing copy; that’s just the truth.

He’s also the first Irishman to complete Taiwan’s legendary 100 Peaks Challenge, summiting 100 mountains, each standing over 3,000 metres. A feat that really does speak for itself. If it exists on this island, Mark has probably already done it a couple of times.

Nathan Miller is from North Carolina, but Asia has been home by choice since 1999. He spent a decade in Japan before settling into life on Taiwan’s roads, where he’s been riding ever since. These days, he splits his time between Northern Taiwan and Taichung, riding almost every day, tinkering with his bikes, and constantly chasing the ever-elusive perfect photo.

This blog is what happens when you log thousands of kilometers on Taiwan’s roads and start writing things down. Routes, climbs, photos, and the kind of insight that only comes from making the same mistakes repeatedly until they stop being mistakes. If you’re looking for your next ride, or just want to know what it’s actually like out there on this island, maybe you’ll find something worth your time. Maybe not. Either way, it’s here.

If you’re rolling through Taoyuan or Taichung and want company, drop me a line. I usually ride in the afternoons and evenings. I might even have a spare bike with your name on it. Links: Facebook, Strava, Instagram
